DISCUSSION DOCUMENT: PNZ SELECTION POLICY

Proposal

“That the current National Selection Policy for national representative teams be replaced by a proposed National Qualification Policy”

    Comments:

Comment 1 Just a quick note to say that I agree 110% with Michaels comments. Clean, clear, transparent - no favourites, no demands on what is "acceptable" - I say, lets play boule!

    Cheers, Maurice.

Comment 2 I like Michaels proposal. It definitely lets you know where you stand come selection time. - Its a shame us young ones are losing interest in the sport. "Bring back Michael or at least his views and ideas". -TonyC.

Comment 3 This selection policy discussion document is the best and most intelligent piece of writing I have seen on the topic. I have asked my club (Masterton) to discuss and table this proposal at the next WPA meeting. If this selection method (National Qualification Policy) is adopted by us (PNZ), we will all gladly say goodbye to the current scatterbrains system. -Tom van B.

Comment 4 Kudos to Michael for the change of stance re selections. And kudos for coming up with what is essentially an easy to understand and very transparent selection criteria. With a little fine tuning it looks very workable and takes the pressure off the selectors. It gets a vote from me. I’d also be interested in seeing how teams work with the concept of substitutes being allowed. Definitely worth looking at. -Andy Gilbert

Comment 5 Wellington region voted on the 23rd of November 2006 (during a special meeting called by Masterton) against the present selection process, and for a team based selection. The Khandallah club put up some stiff resistance, but to no avail. The Khandallah people had previously stifled debate on this topic. You can read how they did this, on this page. Basically it was a low-blow but successful move to scuttle any discussion about the selection process. this took place during a WPA Committee Meeting held on Thursday 19 October 2006. -Tom.

To save this page as a PDF look for a "Save page to PDF" link in the footer (bottom) of this page. This link generates a pdf page, and should work pretty well for most purposes. It's an easy way to get a standard print-out or a simple way to share over email, etc. -Tom van B. (NZPW Administrator).
