Petanque Video DVD's

15/05/06 Proposal: That a selection of Petanque Videos DVD's is made available to players and clubs through a rental service. We would have one person administrating postage, etc. Apart from postage and courier cost this would be a free service (I suggest it comes out of PNZ educational and coaching budget).

At this point in time only a select few have seen a variety of highly educational Petanque videos. These videos should be made available to the wider Petanque community using the system outlined in this proposal. Thanks for your input. -Tom van B.

Comment 1 14/06/06 I am prepared to run a library as outlined in the above proposal. I would as part of the project have a Wiki page with all available Videos and DVD's. It would clearly state where each item was, and when it is due back - plus ordering information. There would also be space for people to write a review and give ratings, etc. The good thing about using a Wiki page with the library service is that anyone could take over the running of the service at any point. In other words, the service would not topple over. The APA website recently (May) toppled over simply because the webmaster resigned!. if I could no longer continue, someone else could take over. A Wiki requires no special knowledge, skills or tools. - thus eliminating the Document Master. -Tom van B.

Comment 2 (13/09/06) Recent (July 26) email correspondence with a member of the PNZ executive:

"Hi Tom, I see on your wiki web site that you are trying to establish a library for petanque DVDs. Is this proposal yet a reality and if so, do you have a list of the DVDs available please."

Reply: "Hi ****, The purpose of the Discussion Documents on the NZPW is initially to gauge support for a proposal. So far there has not been a response. I am not establishing a library - I am willing to run one as outlined in "Comment 1" of the Discussion Document. Cheers, Tom."

Reply: "OK thanks Tom, I appreciate how hard it is to get people to respond!"

Reply: "Hi **** I know. You can of course get the boule rolling by making a comment on the library proposal if you think it is a good idea. Our NZPW password is: **** Cheers, Tom van Bodegraven."

This was the end of the corespondance. Hmm...., interesting. -Tom van B.

Comment 3 It appears from reading the correspondence in Comment 2 that some people may think that the ideas expressed in our Discussion Documents are possibly already up and running. Nothing is further from the truth, and I apologise for not making this clear enough.

These are simply ideas around our game of Petanque, opened up for discussion. Anyone can put up a topic (proposal), and anyone can provide input. It is an exchange of ideas.
In the end I hope that clubs, regional or national (PNZ) organisations will take up some of these proposals for consideration. If no one participates, we can at least say that there is no support for a particular proposal. Knowing this is valuable in itself.
I think it somewhat ironic that this member of the PNZ executive appears to be happy to use the library service "....do you have a list of the DVDs available please.", but is not able to give this proposal public support on this page.
-Tom van B.

Comment 4, December 2006 I find it fascinating that considering this proposal is purely about Petanque education and is not a scary "political" hot item, not one person has been able to say: Hey, Tom I think this is a neat idea. I hope PNZ will take this up for consideration. -Tom.

Comment 5, March 2007 I know that some people will say: "Tom you are not using the right procedure. You must submit any request or ideas though the proper and approved PNZ channels. PNZ will not respond to items placed on the Blog or Wiki. PNZ doesn't really know how to deal with this."

"I will not respond to any postings on this blog site, but I will respond very positively to all signed communications sent to me personally. If you want to remain anonymous, do not expect an answer from me, and your communication will end up in the trashcan, before I read it!!" (text take from this PAGE).
Well, imagine what would happen if someone used this page to ask about how to make a substantial financial donation to PNZ.

The ideas and many contributions on our Blog and Wiki are new and innovative. They are already being adopted by PNZ. PNZ would of course never admit that they are looking through the Blog and Wiki sites for ideas - that's cool. -Tom.
