24/04/2006 I have today made an adjustment to our Wiki style sheet. It has become confusing for people to click on a link and not knowing if this link is an internal or external destination. From now on, external links will look like this: MPC Blog with a small box and arrow. All other links (without this symbol) are links within our Wiki. -Tom.

22/04 It is so nice to see the NZ Petanque community coming on board of this Wiki project, with two offers to pay for the fun competitions (quiz) we have started. Thanks for all your phone calls and emails. Don't forget you can write these kind words on this page as well. This unique NZPW project is attracting some international attention. The well known website petanque.org wants to do an article on our NZPW!. -Tom.

21/04 It is great to see the five Wiki pages of our NZPW sponsor Boules to You slowly taking shape. There is no doubt that the Petanque background of Cam Calder qualifies him to sell boules to you. -Tom.

20/04 Two photos of Waitangi Park have been published today on this PNZ page. We've set aside some time ago (28/02/06) a number of Waitangi Park pages with photos. Good news all-around! -Tom.

20/04 PNZ has published the 2006 AGM documents on their website today. They have also today republished the 2005 AGM documents on the same web page (including the missing 2005 CEO Report). See this discussion document about PNZ AGM documents, etc. -Tom.

17/04 The recently circulated PNZ "Player Code of Behaviour is providing some interesting perspectives. You can participate in this debate on this page. You can read some great satirical views about it on this page. -Tom.

16/04 We received ten captions from four people. Not as many as I had hoped for, but still a good start. Congratulations to the winner Dean Norman. Dean is from the Windy Hills club in Wellington. I have arranged with Murray Porter for you to receive the magazine. Also, many thanks to our international judge Adrian Buehler from the Aoyama Blog for being available to select the winning entry. -Tom.

15/04 It is good to see people are making statements of support to the Wellington based club Windy Hills. I hope that WPA officials will do the same. Talking about Petanque officials, we have received a message of support from Joe Zajac, president Michigan Petanque Club, USA. -Tom.

13/04 Despite the fact that the five promotional pages on this Wiki, which were set aside for the PNZ magazine, are no longer here (see item 02/03 on this page), I would still like to help with some kind of promotion. I will continue to display the front cover just before you receive your latest edition. You can see the Autumn cover and main topics here on our MPC Blog -Tom.

12/04 For the first time as editor of the Masterton Blog page I have asked people to respond in a particular way to a "suggestion" put up by one of us (see Blog page). I have done this to encourage Petanque players and officials to make it clear to the originator and the wider Petanque community that we do not condone this sort of destructive behaviour. "Stupid is forever, ignorance can be fixed". -Don Wood -Tom.

11/04 You have four days left to come up with the winning caption. We've had a good response so far. Find out more on the competition page. -Tom.

10/04 The Masterton Blog page has received a most appalling suggestion aimed at the Windy Hills Club. I have had to deal with a torrent of emails from angry Petanque players this morning. I think the person that wrote the suggestion must be quite deranged. -Tom.

09/04 PNZ has recently circulated a one page "Code of Behaviour" document. You can download a PDF copy here. See also "comments" on this page. -Tom.

07/04 Copyright: No big deal. Take any image you like. Just be nice and say you got it from our Wiki. Of course, if you bring into our Wiki, images which are taken from another source, make sure you mention that source. Common courtesy rules - don't be too precious about a couple of Petanque images. -Tom.

06/04 Trevor Neilson from the Rotorua Club has put up a rather spectacular shot of their piste in twilight, on our Top Shot page. Anyone who has played on that piste would agree, the setting is out of this world. Most photos of their terrain are therefore pretty special. -Tom.

05/05 It is good to see people are giving comments/feedback to some of the discussion documents. It can be very liberating and constructive to just record your views. -Tom.

03/04 "News, tips and information" is for all of us. Anyone can write something here as long as it has something to do with our game or our Wiki project. Have a go, and if you don’t like it you can just remove it again. Once this page becomes too long, we will simply put a big chunk of it into our NZ Petanque Wiki Archive. In time, this could prove to be an interesting piece of history. -Tom.

02/04 You can make a link look different. For this example I will use a Cockle Bay link: Tournament Results9 If you simply type it like this: you will find the results [Tournament Results9|here] it would look like this: you will find the results here. In other words it is the original link "Tournament Results9" with a "|" (vertical bar) and the word "here". Simply enclose all this with a "[" straight bracket on either side, and you are done. -Tom.

01/04 Graeme Morris was today officially presented with a gift and a life membership of PNZ. This took place this morning just before the start of the National Triples in Auckland. It is great to see Graeme's tireless dedication and commitment to Petanque in New Zealand recognised in such a public way. Graeme stood down as CEO of PNZ on 25/03/06. -Tom.

29/03 I read with interest in Neil Goodwin's excellent web based Newsletter that the PNZ AGM was a quiet affair with "the only significant decision being to raise the affiliation to $6". He goes on to say "Clubs will be receiving the official minutes in due course" (maybe the minutes could simply go onto the Web - see my proposal).

I hope that at the AGM a special tribute was made to Graeme Morris. Let it not be forgotten, and I quote here from the Wairarapa Times Age article 15.03.2006: "....Graeme Morris, is about to stand down as chief executive officer of Petanque New Zealand. He has held that position for five years after first becoming part of the PNZ board in 1999. He has also managed New Zealand teams to two Oceania championships and five world championships". All people who do work for their clubs or organisations are volunteers, often giving their personal finances and lots of time. It is important we recognise this and praise these people, because if we don't, it may prove impossible to fill the vacant chairs around the table. In New Zealand we are quick to criticise, but have a lot of difficulties with giving praise and compliments. I saw an ad in yesterday's Wellington Dominion Post newspaper for Clinton Saint James School with this prominent line: "We grow tall poppies". That's what I call a positive attitude! We have to learn to celebrate people. Thanks for all your hard work Graeme. -Tom.

28/03 We've found a sponsor in Boules to You for this NZ Petanque Wiki. This means we do not have to rely on donations to cover the annual USA hosting and membership cost (US$ 50.00 per year). More importantly, our Wiki project well remain truly free for all. This deal will cover expected further falls of our dollar against the US dollar. Boules to You will get a number of product pages within our Wiki. -Tom.

27/03 After only 6 weeks this Wiki has already passed the 100 pages mark! It is great to get up-to-date tournament results from Auckland. The Cockle Bay club made the APA triples result available hours after the event on their Tournament Resulst page. Congratulations to Alan Fletcher - Dave Lippard - Chris Priesley. This Wiki is helping with sharing of news and information through contributions from many Petanque players, thus sharing the load. -Tom.

26/03 If you are one of those lucky people with a rss capable web browser such as "Safari" or Firefox" (why on earth do people use MS Internet Explorer?) you can use the feed below to see instantly when and where (what page) a contribution or modification has been made on our Wiki.

24/03 I am glad to see that the PNZ Blog has been revived on March 22, 2006 for what looks like the purpose of keeping everyone informed about the Trans Tasman Cup match (option 2 of my proposal). This PNZ Blog has been dormant since May 28, 2005, so this is really good news! -Tom.

23/03 We now have a dedicated photo page "Top Shot". You can use this page to put up a photo you think is good (one photo at a time). You are the curator. If you think a photo has been up long enough (couple of days or months), just replace it with another one you like. -Tom.

22/03 If your club is already on this Wiki, and you do not have a photo album, but you would like one, let me know and I will set it up for you. Cockle Bay is putting their album to good use! -Tom.

22/03 The Windy Hills Club qualifies as the most wired club in New Zealand! They have all their members (100%) connected to the internet. So far, clubs on this Wiki who have completed their stats at the top of their first page, all show over 50% internet access! From time to time we hear people say that internet access is low amongst NZ Petanque members - so far the stats show the opposite. -Tom.
