Independent mediation service

12/01/07 I propose that PNZ makes available an independent mediation service. This would be available for the most extreme cases, and only when invited to mediate, by the parties in dispute.

A person with a suitable background in conflict resolution or counselling type work would need to be appointed.

We in New Zealand are a small and close Petanque family, and it is important to avoid long and festering situations such as the Dawn Gardner incident. Thanks for your input. -Tom.

Comment 1 I am happy to report that PNZ has now (March 2007) taken this on board. Bryan Wells has been allocated is the role of "Dispute resolution". I like to think that our Wiki has played a part in this. Great news all-around. -Tom

Comment 2 In the light of Bryan's statement to the membership and his first attempt at publishing text on the Web in the form of a Newsletter, I do not think this is a role suited to him because of his dogmatic and adversarial style. I recommend "How to Have a Beautiful Mind" by Edward de Bono. -Tom.

"....Our usual habits of thinking and conversation, with the emphasis on the 'battle' of argument and seeking to prove people wrong, provide deliberate misleading information or just to have our say, are not at all beautiful. In a series of chapters on the techniques of conversation, de Bono helps you erase those old 'knee-jerk' habits and learn to converse with others in a way that is thoughtful, mindful and understanding".
PS. I need Edward de Bono's book too. This is why I bought it.
