I Am Speaking Freely Here!!
And I Am Saying What I Think For Me Personally From Myself, Wanted To Be Clear On This, And I Am Not Pointing Fingers At Anyone In Particular OK??
I Am Just A Little bit Concerned About Our Federation (P.N.Z) Regarding Everything That Has Happen During The Past Few Year And God Knows How Many More. Anyway, My Point On This Is How And Why Players Have To Pay To Represent Their Own Country At The Worlds Or Singapore Or Vietnam, etc.....?
To Me It's Not Fair, Why Should I Pay For My Fare To Go There When I Represent My Country, " Why Should I ''!!! Can The People That Have Been Elected In The P.N.Z Committee To Do Their Job Properly And Go Out There And Find Sponsor I Am Certain They Will Find Heaps.
" No " In Fact I Know There Is Heaps Of It out there. I Don't Know Go Door To Door If You Have To!! Don't Just Sit On The First Sponsor You Come Across, or 2nd, 3 Sponsor, Because You Think They Going To Come True. All The Players Got Excited When They Got The Phone Call From The Selector And I Don't Blame Them For It To Be Happy, "But Wait, There Is More Guys" You Have To Pay For Your FARE, ACCOMMODATION, FOOD, TRANSPORT, UNIFORM As Well.
Its Like A Slap On The Face, To Me It Would Be.
Example Look At The Fare For The Team That Is Going To Represent New Zealand In Australia For The TRANS TASMAN, I Really Fell For Them $1200.00 Each Per person It's bloody Ridiculous And Pathetic, If You Ask Me. And Something Should Be Done About It A.S.A.P ..... And Try Atleast To Help Them Financially With Couple $100 Of Dollars. Or " Something ".
What Is Going To Happen For The Next Few Years To Come Are WE As a Federation Going To Change It Or Stay The Same In New Zealand, Petanque Is Dying And We As "Country " Don't Event Know It, But It Already Began, And We Find Ourselves Stuck Because Every Year Its The Same '"Scenario" Every Time, Especially When It Comes To The NATIONAL TRIPLES And That My Good Friends Its "'Fact ".
In My Opinion, Who Ever Wins The National Triples, Then Have The Right To Book Their Own Fare, With Any Airline They Want ...With Their Own Money.... , Why Is P.N.Z Asking For $2500.00 Each For Three Player's Not Including The Fourth Player, You Looking At $10.000 Dollars For All 4 Player " Why Is That The Player " Have To Go By The Criteria If The P.N.Z (Body) Are Not Going To Lift A Finger Its Beyond Me, They Are Always Saying When The Sponsors Comes True You Get Reimburse " What If They Don't .......". What Then "Every Singles One Of Them Just Lost $2500.00 Dollars Each.
Well To Me Its A Shame...... Because Petanque It's A Games Of Sportsmanship ,Commitments, Dedication, Sacrifices , And Most Of All " Playing The Game ", With he New President (Bryan Wells) In Charge I Hope His New Plan And His Strategy Work, And I Wish Him Well For The Next Four Years Coming I Hope For The Sake Of The Game " Petanque" And I Know HE Will Come True I Have A Good Feeling About Him, Otherwise We Back To Square-One Once Again My Friend.
As A Country We Think That We Are Working Together, As A Federation We Think That We Working Together, As Players We Think That We Working Together, But We Don't We All Say "Hello" But Deep Down We Don't Mean It. Maybe Some Of Us Do.
A Very Concerned Player.
Well, I Think That's All Folks.

If you don't believe the representative on the PNZ are doing a good enough job of securing sponsorship, may I suggest you volunteer to do the job. If you want to change the process the best way to do that is to get involved in the PNZ or your regional Association, that way you get to see the bigger picture.
At the end of the day it is up to the individual if they want to make themselves available for selection. I would say many make that decision based on their financial situation.
I wish it could be all paid for, I wish we had sponsors begging to give us money, I wish we could send a team that was not based on who can afford it. But the sad fact is we do ! This comment has been places on this separate page: Anonymous reply from PNZ.
We are not the only sport that is self funded.

The fact that the trips are self funded was no a secret and people have had plenty of time to consider how they will fund their trips. Have you ever consider fund raising yourself ? or you could approach one of the many people you know willing to give sponsorship " In Fact I Know There Is Heaps Of It out there “ or maybe you could try door to door like you suggested “. I Don't Know Go Door To Door If You Have To!! - I totally agree with your statement “ Petanque Its A Games Of Sportsmanship ,Commitments, Dedication, Sacrifices , “ If you really wanted to represent your country so badly maybe you need to make some sacrifices, to enable you to save and fund your trip.

Hi- First thing, we're not used to reading annonymous comments on this blog, its disturbing and sterile - put your name or don't talk.
I would like to raise some points about the financial situation of the PNZ:
*The following statement is taken from Bryan Wells' letter:
This seems to be an indication that even more of "our" money will be used to fund meetings! Bryan states that he feels that we will lose our volunteers, but how does he feel about losing our players? Yes it is important to make sure our volunteers feel valued, but it is just as important to make sure our players feel the same. Playing for NZ should be an honour awarded only to the players at the very top level of our sport. The PNZ should invest some money into sending the best team to overseas competitions, not a team made up of those who can afford it.
Could we at least think about sharing the money more equally between the administration and the players?
Seb & Nikki.
PS. where is the PNZ organisation chart? It was on the PNZ website but we can't seem to find it anymore. It looked like the "tight 3" had gained more positions of power, would just like to check this out.

I think the writer of the original article has several valid points that are not addressed by the apparent PNZ Executive member who wrote the first anonymous reply to it.
Firstly, PNZ has changed the nature of who will represent NZ at the World Championships by its policy requiring more up-front payments. Most of the teams previously representing NZ would not have been able to go to the Worlds if such payments had been mandatory. Is this what the sport wants?
Secondly, is PNZ going to make travel arrangements for the players that are cost effective? From what I know it would have been cheaper for TransTasman players to make their own travel arrangements than those arranged by PNZ.

Thanks Michael For Your Comment, It is true !! none of those players would have made it there and back.
Well, so the comment that was made by the person with " no name "
"I wish it could be all paid for, I wish we had sponsors begging to give us money, I wish we could send a team that was not based on who can afford it.
But the sad fact is we do !"
So this person know what is talking about, what is saying is "they have gone through this before ", well done mate.
Georgio.
