PNZ CEO Election

06/07/06 I propose we elect our PNZ CEO through a national election process. A number of Would-be Candidates put their names forward. Each candidate writes, say, three paragraphs to tell us about their skills, vision for our game, etc.. The membership votes, and the winning candidate serves a term. A term of two to three years seems about right to me.

One of the big disadvantages with the present setup is that the CEO position has to be applied for (like a job) with an application to the sitting group. This sitting group decides who gets in and who does not. This may not give us the person, we the membership, would be happy with.
Thanks for your input. -Tom van B.

Comment 1 I am sure there are many people who would be interested in the job if PNZ was not such a "closed" shop. There seems to be too many secret agendas, conflicts of interest, lack of communication and general poor management. What encourangement is there for anyone to want to apply for the job unless it was someone who was prepared to go in with a very big broom!! Graeme Burnard.

Comment 2 This is a Catch 22. Under the present system, people who bring a "very big broom" to the job will simply not get in. Tom van B.

Comment 3 I have made available this New Zealand Petanque Wiki to help with the democratic election process. On this PAGE you will find a sample page for the candidates (one page per candidate), it has space for you to put a question to the candidate. -Tom.

Comment 4 Our new CEO Bryan Wells was selected by a panel of three people - two PNZ representatives and one from SPARC. He may well be the very best person for the job and our game, but it is still an arranged marriage. If this system is to continue, I would at the very least like to see some members on this selection panel. One from each region?. -Tom.
